Cottage Grove's Firemen's Festival in June packed with fun
6/1/2003 - Joyce Hastings, Cottage Grove Economic Development Corporation
This festival, June 12 - 15, is community's biggest event of the year. Events include carnival rides, a parade, baseball games, a giant horse pull, music entertainment, a pancake breakfast, and one of the largest fireworks display in the area.

The 72nd annual Cottage Grove Fireman’s Festival will be held at Fireman’s Park Thursday, June 12, to Sunday, June 15. Enjoy carnival rides; a parade; baseball games; a children’s pedal tractor, garden tractor, and giant horse pulls; bingo, a pancake breakfast; and a fireworks display. Purchase raffle tickets to win a variety of other cash prizes and gift certificates donated by local businesses. Food and refreshments also are served on the grounds.

The festival kicks off Thursday night with a non-alcohol teen night, carnival rides, and two baseball games. With the purchase of an armband for $12, teens can ride carnival rides from 6 – 10 p.m. (The arm-band night also is planned for Sunday evening, from 5 – 9 p.m.) Purchase advance ride tickets at local businesses for substantial savings.

Music entertainment is offered Friday to Sunday by various bands appealing to a variety of age groups. From country to rock, listen to the sounds of Kristi B Band, Rockin Royals, Smokin’ Crawdads, The Keatons, Axle Grease, Chuck Bayuk, Xception, The Britins, and Midlife Crisis. The festival ends Sunday at 9:45 p.m. with one of the area’s first and finest firework displays.

Help keep our roads safe. Use the SafeRider Service for a free lift home within a 12-mile radius or $5 outside of the area.

Proceeds from last year’s festival were used to purchase of AED Defibrillators placed in the Cottage Grove Police Department’s cars. The Fire Department also purchased new Scott Air Packs, provided continuing education awards for 11 Cottage Grove students, and responded to cash donations for nine area youth organizations. Support the Fire Department by purchasing raffle tickets at the event. Special thanks to Homburg Equipment & Contractors, Waste Management and R.G. Huston Co. for their support.
