In an unexpected announcement the Dane County DOT has given notice to the Village of road work to be done this month in the Village of Cottage Grove.
They will be grinding off a layer of blacktop from County Highway BB north to School Road. New blacktop will then be placed on the stretch of highway. The work will not involve widening the road or adding additional lanes.
This work was not in the ten year plan of projects the county uses for road projects. It means this stretch of road will be redone at least 10 years earlier than the Village could have expected.
Due to the work from the Interstate north to Sun Prairie coming in faster than originally expected and money being available this project will be done this year.
During the construction alternate routes should be used in order to avoid delays on Highway N during the construction project.
Last year the County Highway Department did a project which was planned for from the RR tracks in the Village south to State Highway 12 and 18. The road was re-blacktopped in the Village. The intersections on County Highway N to the south of the Village had turn lanes added. In the village some utility work was done in parts of the road so the new road would not have to be dug up again. This has been a goal of the Village Public Works Committee and Village Utility Committee for several years to plan so all the construction can be done at one time.
