We write as your elected leaders of the town and the village of Cottage Grove. We wish to make the following statement about the upcoming Monona Grove School District referendums, to be voted on April 4:
* We believe the school district's proposed referendum is the least expensive and best solution studied by the school board. We support the referendum, and the school board's decision to offer it as the best long-term solution for educating our district's children.
* As the town chair and village president, we strongly support the referendum as a low-cost solution that relieves overcrowding in the Cottage Grove schools and provides a modern, contemporary middle school for our district's students.
* We believe a YES vote on both referendum questions is the best long-term solution. It provides a quality education for all students in the Monona Grove School District.
* We are concerned that several inaccurate statements have been made in the days leading up to the referendum vote. We urge residents of the village and town of Cottage Grove to seek out accurate information from the Monona Grove School District website at www.mononagrove.org
